2018 NSW Mid North Coast (MNC) flocking -initial research and request for feedback.

Hi all. Following the vote at Mudgee for a flocking at Valla on the NSW MNC I have done some initial research....
The Valla Beach Resort is looking quite run down and I am not impressed by the facilities. But, all is not lost. I have found an alternative that will fit the bill for this flocking very nicely.

The accommodation would be in cabins in the White Albatross caravan park at Nambucca Heads. Powered camp sites are also available.

Link
This is a modern, very well maintained and appointed park with an excellent watering hole, the V Wall Tavern adjoining.
The caravan park is modern, well maintained and boasts the following features:
- a range of fully equipped cabins ranging from twin share to ones that also have bunks as well as more than one bedroom (air conditioned, full kitchen and bathroom facilities, all linen including towels provided),
- paved roads and parking next to cabins,
- a covered BBQ area that has 4 large BBQs and seating for 48 people. 15 metres away is a fully equipped kitchen with more facilities, two large gas ovens/ranges, 4 more BBQ surfaces, more seating, refrigeration, electric kettles, toasters, microwaves etc.
- concrete car/bike washing bay
- excellent outdoor swimming pool and a private lagoon for swimming
- great location near beaches (and, of course, staggering distance to the V Wall tavern)
- plentiful powered camp sites for those who want to rough it.

$$$$$
As you would expect from such a well appointed holiday park the prices are not at the low end of the scale BUT, initial discussions with management indicate they can do a 20 -25% discount for non refundable bookings made 12 months in advance. If you wish to book later and/or go for a refundable booking you will pay more. Notably, many cabins provide sharing options for couples, singles or a mix of both. When you take that into account the accommodation cost becomes very reasonable. For example, the most expensive lagoon front 2br cabin with a 20% discount, and has a large lounge and kitchen, a double bed, and a single bed and a double bunk in the 2nd bedroom would work out at $42.50/night if 5 people shared.

V Wall tavern.

Link
While not a large hotel, the tavern is big enough for us. Initial discussions with management has indicated that they can seat up to 70 in the dining room and are prepared to provide it for our exclusive use if we wish. That would work for Saturday night. Food is of a high standard and drinks are NOT exorbitantly priced. In initial discussions they said that we might be able to negotiate a set menu with the chef for an entr??e, main and dessert @ $35/head if we get enough takers. The tavern is on the waterfront with outstanding views over the river mouth and adjoins the White Albatross caravan park.

Flocking Dates
Here is where I would like a vote. We volunteered for a March 18 flocking but (and please excuse my ignorance as a relatively new resident in area) I have discovered that that is the wettest month of the year. October, on the other hand, is one of the driest. While I am loath to break the tradition of getting rained on at flockings I was wondering if you guys would want to push the MNC flocking back to October and find another venue for March. If you want to stick with March and risk the weather, no problem. Please provide your vote and majority will rule. You can either vote by reply on the forum or via the poll I have created on our Facebook page. Will check both.

Sorry for the long rambling post, but I want everyone to be informed. I will presume that the accommodation/booze up venues are OK unless I get major push back otherwise so the main issue is dates.
Regards,
Ken

Hey Ken,

The very first Flocking was in May so we don't have to go in March - maybe April would be better for the weather? Easter is 1 April next year - why not aim for the weekend after that; some folk might join it to their Easter holidays and accommodation should be reasonably accessible?

Thoughts?

Cheers

Whilst March may be wet I think it must be around the first 3 or 4 months of the year. Late March, April is fine but not October as is being put to the vote on Facebook. As I said on Facebook, this forum is where the Flockings originated and so should also have all matters pertaining to the Flockings posted here.

Sad that only 2 people have replied on this forum as opposed to about 20 on Facebook. We are losing our identity and becoming fragmented.

I'm not really fussed either way but to keep things on an even keel I think leaving it as it was voted at Mudgee is the best option.

Sorry I was slowwwww to respond Steve, I am away atm and using the iPhone for FB is easier then flashing up the notebook.

Have thought about it a bit more. My vote goes to leaving the MNC flocking in autumn the exact date doesn't matter to me if a few weeks either way makes more sense.

Thanks for the input. guys. Looks like sticking with Plan A is (March) is becoming the more favoured option.
Sorry I started this thing....but given the climate, thought I had to at least give people the option.

The Flockings have prospered due to being a democratic group if it stops being run under this principle it may not last, on a personal note Jimbo has a good idea by running the Flocking in April in being wary of Easter and school holidays, this would have my vote. Maybe put this date in the Forum and Facebook and get some feedback from the group.

Looking at our group media the forum has 6 flockers chattting about the MNC flocking and the facebook page has 19, surely people are voting with their feet as to which media is the easiest to use and has brought our flockings to the attention of new guys, it is easy to copy and paste stuff from facebook to the forum if there is a concern that we are losing our heritage.

Hi Guys,
I'm not going to vote on this as I wasn't at Mudgee and didn't partake in the vote there (due to unforeseen circumstances).

I think the only people who should vote are the ones who were there, Otherwise people will be involved in a decision who may not even be going to the flocking.

I, and others, have put some comments into the Facebook discussion but that is because its easy ( i look at this forum maybe once a week and sometimes dont log on unless i want to post, but i look at Facebook many times a day, i bet there are others who do that).

Most people can access Facebook on a phone but if i look at this forum on my phone its hard to navigate and read.

As Rabbs said, this is a democratic group and people will use their preferred media. Ken seems to be across both, this forum and Facebook, and can take the info from both to decide the outcome.

As usual, Ill go anywhere anytime for a flocking because i enjoy the group. There are lots of good people in it who are like minded and enjoy riding, laughing, having fun,and solving the worlds problems over a few drinks.

Whatever the decision, ill see you all there

Cheers Blair

Blair I am sure there have been plenty of flockers who have voted for a venue at a flocking and then could not attend. I voted for Mudgee but couldn't make it, I will be attending Lakes Entrance as I voted and I will attend the one after, so I don't think you should abstain. IMO.

I agree with Irish, however if Ken and Bill want to adjust the venue and/or the timing slightly then that's fair enough.
However, if there is a clash with Easter or Vic or SA School holidays it will make it difficult for me to attend.

Thanks Ken and Bill for volunteering to organise the flocking and also for asking for our input.
You can be sure that Flockers will come from all over, despite the location and the weather, just to enjoy yours and the others company and the joy of the ride.

TO ALL AUSSIE FLOCKERS...

The votes are neck and neck for when to have the MNC flocking on the FB page but here on the forum March is the clear favourite and there seems to be a strong sentiment to stick with the Mudgee vote (and tradition) and keep it March so, unless there are any violent objections to closing the poll, I declare March the winner and will post dates after Bill and I do some research on local issues, and ensuring we do not clash with other relevant events. The venue is the V Wall Tavern at Nambucca Heads with accommodation at the White Albatross caravan park. This post is repeated on the FB page. Cheers all.

AUSSIE FLOCKERS
The dates for the Mid North Coast NSW 2018 Autumn flocking are 16/17 March. Venue is the V Wall Tavern, Nambucca Heads NSW and accommodation will be available at the White Albatross Holiday Park, 52 Wellington Drive, Nambucca Heads NSW. The holiday park is adjacent to the V Wall Tavern.

Link to White Albatross page:

Link
I suggest you check out the accommodation options on the above website and call the park to book. Their phone number is 02-6568 6468. Early bookings (more than 2 months earlier than the flocking date) will attract a 20% price reduction BUT are payable upon booking and are non-refundable. If you want to go for a refundable option you will need to negotiate a suitable price and may end up paying full price if you book later. Please note that special deals do become available from time to time on their website but the later you leave a booking in hopes of a possible special deal on the days we are booking the more chance that accommodation may become scarce or even unavailable. You may want to compare the price offered by management with other online booking options as well (such as Trivago or Booking.com) but the 20% discount deal should be very competitive. Park discounts apply to both camping sites and cabins. I suggest that flockers network to share accommodation if they want to save $$$$.

The V Wall Tavern has been made aware of the flocking and has tentatively reserved the main dining room for our exclusive use on the Saturday night. There is an option to have a set menu for Saturday night with a reasonable range of dish choices but more will be posted on that as we get closer to the flocking. Management have stated that they can accommodate any dietary requirements so no issue there.

That's all for now. Feel free to post any questions and I will reply. This post is repeated on the FB page.

Cheers,
KB

Yes but we have to wait and see how many are going to turn up, may have to ride the '72 Honda down in case NSW gets a record.

whoa there Leethal,settle lad!!
There are two reasons why Brisbane managed to get the flocking "record", 1. thanks to the huge NSW contingent that travelled north of the border from their beloved premier state, like the Trojans at Troy, to boost the numbers of their noisy neighbours.
2. the Queenslanders had to hold it in their capital city in order to get Queenslanders to "show up".
Like big Mal whispered to Laurie Daly at the drunken NRL christmas party, "I think Queenslands luck is running out".
If Melbourne or Sydney decide to put on a big bash one of these days, I suspect that the QLD record will be nothing but a distant memory.
Past glories fading into history

ps the old vintage Honda probably wouldn't make it out of the suburbs. you better bring the box trailer
